Sports Massage is used for the treatment and prevention of sports injuries, but you don’t have to be a sports person to benefit.  Massage can often help those who do little or no exercise.  It combines the use of Holistic (Swedish) Massage with additional more intensive and specialised techniques, and many injuries and painful conditions can be helped by using these techniques.  The benefits of Sports Massage include those for Holistic Massage (click here for the page on Holistic Massage), and also include the following:

·

Allows for quicker recovery and healing both after an event and following an injury.

·

Peak performance can be reached faster and sustained for a longer time.

·

Relaxes the muscles, increasing blood and lymphatic circulation, hence increasing waste and toxin removal and the supply of nutrients and oxygen.

·

Helps with stretching, which will also help to remove the products of fatigue such as lactate.

·

Helps to limit and remove adhesions in the muscles, thus reducing stiffness and keeping muscles supple.

·

Increases muscle tone and helps to keep muscles in their optimum state.

·

Eases pain and limits swelling.

·

Improves flexibility of muscles and joints.

·

Increases fitness capabilities and performance potential.

·

Assists psychologically, to calm, relax, boost confidence, relieve tension or stimulate.

·

Useful during warm up for an event or training to reduce the possibility of injury.

·

Useful during cool down after an event or training for relaxation, stretching and getting rid of fatigue.

·

It is possible for the therapist to pick up potential unforeseen problems such as tight muscles, which can be treated before they become severe.

A sports massage treatment begins with a short consultation so that the therapist can answer any concerns, determine the client’s problems and sort out the best way to carry out the treatment.  It is always necessary to disclose any health issues to the therapist.  Very occasionally it may be unwise to carry out the massage, or it may be necessary  to request written permission from the client’s doctor before a massage can be given.  If you have any concerns, please do check with Christine and/or your GP before requesting a treatment.  All treatments with Christine are treated as highly confidential and no information will be passed to others without your permission.

It is possible for Christine to attend your place of sport for pre-and post-event massages.  Please enquire for further details - Contact Page.
