Reiki literally means “Universal Life Energy”, and it is the energy or power that flows through and around everything – minerals, plants, animals and humans. It was used thousands of years ago by the Tibetans and was rediscovered by Dr Usui in Japan in the 1920's. Reiki healing has now spread throughout the world in many different forms.

A Reiki treatment is a very simple and effective form of natural healing which transfers extra Universal Life Energy to the recipient. This can clear the energy blockages which cause our symptoms, and can act on the mind, body and spirit to re-balance and harmonise us.

When our energy is balanced we heal quicker and we are more able to cope with stressful situations.

Generally a Reiki treatment brings about deep relaxation, thus lowering blood pressure and heart rate, stress hormones are reduced and 'happy' hormones released. It dissolves energy blockages and detoxifies the body.
A Reiki treatment begins with a short consultation so that the therapist can answer any concerns, determine the client’s problems and sort out the best way to carry out the treatment.  During the treatment the recipient normally lies on a treatment couch fully clothed, while the therapist places his/her hands either on or just above various positions of the body.  The Reiki energy passes through the therapist’s hands to the client.  Soft, relaxing music plays in the background if the client is happy with this.  Reiki can be given in any position, lying down or seated, and it is therefore very suitable for disabled and infirm clients.  A treatment usually lasts for about an hour, but this can be adapted for individual clients.

Clients often report feeling heat or cold from the hands, tingling, seeing colours, or sometimes nothing at all. The variety of responses to the Reiki is amazing, but the Reiki energy will always be used for the client’s greatest and highest good.

It is very common for clients to fall asleep and start snoring and this is a great sign that they are relaxed!  Very occasionally clients may experience pain or a headache during the treatment - an indication that healing is occurring.  It is sometimes possible for a client to become emotional, which is a sign that a blockage is being resolved.  Christine always points out that clients should let her know if they are feeling at all uncomfortable so that she can stop or change the treatment as appropriate.

There are very few contra-indications to having a Reiki treatment, and your doctor’s permission is not normally required. However, if you have any concerns at all, please do check with your GP before receiving a treatment.  All treatments with Christine are treated as highly confidential and no information will be passed to others without the client’s permission.
